Offense Powers Tars Past Buccaneers

Rollins defeated Barry 7-5 on Friday night

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. (April 10, 2026) - Rollins opened their SSC series against Barry with a comeback road win, winning 7-5 on Friday night. The Tars now stand at 24-9, 15-4 SSC while the Buccaneers fall to 19-17, 6-13 SSC.

Barry opened the scoring in the bottom of the second. A hit batter, a walk, and an infield single loaded the bases with no outs. Christian Perez brought in a run with a sac fly, and Dyson Joseph added a second with a groundout to give Barry a 2-0 lead.

The Bucs scored a third run in the third with an RBI single from Aidan Heffner.

The Tars broke through in the fifth. Stephen Deans and Mauri Bejarano both singled, with Joey Rubin walking with two outs to load the bases. On the next pitch, Collin Hughes ripped a triple down the right field line, clearing the bases and tying the game. Rollins added a fourth run on an error from the shortstop, making it 4-3.

Tyler Toro replaced Noah Greenseid in the fifth, doing an impeccable job with shutout frames in the fifth, sixth, and seventh innings.

Rollins added some insurance in the eighth. With two outs, Mauri Bejarano reached on another Barry error, keeping the inning alive. The Tars took advantage of their extra life, with Joey Rubin driving in Bejarano with a single, and Hughes adding another RBI with a hit by pitch.

AJ Seymour took the mound in the bottom half of the inning, allowing a pair of runs to score, making it a 6-5 ballgame.

The Tars added one more run in the ninth, thanks again to sloppy defense from the Bucs. After Connor O'Sullivan reached on an error, he stole second, and then scored on a Matthew Mateo RBI base hit.

Seymour put the Buccaneers down in order in the ninth, striking out Joseph to end the game.

Toro earned the win with three innings of relief. He was charged with one run on one hit while striking out two. Seymour earned his fourth save of the season on the mound.

Hughes had two hits while driving in four to lead the offense. Mateo and Deans each had two hits as well. Freshman Owen Rardin started at third base, getting on base three times via walk.

Game two of the series will take place at 1:30 on Saturday from Feinbloom Field.
