Sharks Take Two From Tars

Nova Southeastern defeated Rollins twice on Saturday

FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla. (March 21, 2026) – The baseball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader on Saturday, falling to the Nova Southeastern Sharks by scores of 3-1 and 14-5. The Tars now stand at 18-7, 9-3 SSC while the Sharks improve to 12-12, 5-7 SSC.

GAME ONE
Nova Southeastern 3, Rollins 1

The Sharks jumped on the board first with a solo home run from Michael Arnold in the second inning. Rollins threatened in the top of the fourth with two on and no out, but a double play sucked the momentum out of the air, and a strikeout ended the threat.

The Tars had another prime opportunity in the sixth with runners on second and third, but a strikeout again stymied the opportunity.

Brett Dennis was doing everything he could to keep his guys in the game, absolutely shutting down the Sharks after the second inning home run. He finally got some support in the seventh. Elvin Figueroa led off with a single, and was pinch run for by Logan Struk. Struk moved to second on a failed pickoff attempt, and then to third on a sac bunt. The next two hitters were walked and hit by a pitch, loading the bases. Next up was Matthew Mateo, who was also plunked, bringing home Struk. No further damage would be done though as the next two hitters were put out.

Nova Southeastern took the lead again in the bottom of the eighth when Roylan Quevedo launched a two-run home run to left, making the final of 3-1. Rollins had a shot in the ninth with two men on and one out, but they followed the script for the day, with the last two hitters striking out to end the game.

Rubin and Mateo each had two hits to lead the offense. Dennis was assessed the loss with a final line of 7.1 innings, four hits, two runs, and six strikeouts.

GAME TWO
Nova Southeastern 14, Rollins 5

The Tars rallied in the first to put three runs on the board. Joey Rubin was hit by a pitch, stole second, and moved to third on a wild pitch. After a walk and another hit batter loaded the bases with two outs, Tyler Meyer drew a walk to score Rubin, followed by a two-run base hit from Figueroa.

Unfortunately, the Sharks had the immediate answer in the bottom half. With one out, the next seven Nova hitters reached base safely, including a grand slam from Emilio Gonzalez. The score was 5-3 by the time six total outs were recorded in the first.

A sac fly from Jayden Brown scored Rubin in the second, pulling Rollins within one.

Nova Southeastern added three more in the third on just one hit, thanks to four walks and a hit batter. Another run was tacked on in the fourth courtesy of a Rollins error, making the score 9-4. Two more in the fifth on a pair of singles created an 11-4 deficit.

Rollins had two men on in the sixth, and scored a run on a double play, but could not muster anything further. The Sharks then added another three runs, including a wild play to end the inning that involved a groundball to the pitcher that turned into two runs as well as two outs. It was now 14-5 in favor of the Sharks, which ended up being the final score.

Matteo added three more hits to his weekend total, plus a walk. Figueroa had two RBI. A total of seven Tars stepped on the mound in this one, with Ryan Taylor and Robert Ogg tossing scoreless frames.

Next up for the Tars is a home series against Lynn starting on Friday, March 27. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 pm.
