This Week in Athletics: February 4

Baseball, Women’s Tennis, and Women’s Lacrosse have their home openers this week

February 4, 2026

Greetings #TARnation! Sorry we missed each other last week ... guess my computer "froze". We've got the 70s coming back this weekend, and plenty of action to take in on campus. But first, let's get caught up on the latest in Tars Athletics:

- Men's lacrosse kicked off their season with a statement win on Sunday over rival Florida Southern, 12-5. Nate Paulo found the net four times and added an assist, Logan McHugh and Charlie Metz each scored three times, and Aaron Williams and Logan Myers each dished out a pair of helpers. Colin Selters and Nick Catino combined for nine saves in goal as the #18 Tars started the year the right way.

- Baseball opened their season at Daikin Park, home of the Houston Astros, as part of the Houston Winter Classic. The Tars faced a daunting schedule including games against #2 Central Missouri, #10 North Greenville, and a matchup with NCAA tourney team Arkansas Tech. Rollins went 1-2, run-ruling Tech by a score fo 12-2. Catcher Collin Hughes collected five hits in nine at-bats, including a home run and four RBI. Joey Rubin reached base safely ten times, and Michael Furry launched a walkoff grand slam to highlight the weekend.

- Softball is undefeated to start 2026 as they took down Flagler twice on the road in a doubleheader on Friday. Bri Perantoni, the reigning South Region Freshman of the Year, went 3-4 with two RBI and a steal while Marisa Edevane popped a double and a home run, driving in two. In the circle, Reese Twiggs allowed one run in six innings, and Camila Leon-Blanco struck out three in four innings of work. The bullpen did not allow a run in relief.

- Men's basketball blew out the Eckerd Tritons on Saturday, winning 90-65. Mayson Quartlebaum led the team with  25 points, and submitted his name for play of the year with this monster dunk!

- Swimming honored their senior class on January 24 with a stellar showing against New College of Florida, winning 23 of 24 events on the day.

- Women's basketball won once and lost twice since we last saw each other. On January 24, the Tars went to Saint Leo and took home a solid 70-58 win against the Lions. Faith Newton scored a season-high 23 points in the game, while Elaina Kline-Ruminski, Claire Erickson, and Grace Craig all hit double digits.

- The tennis season opening matches against St. Thomas that were scheduled for Sunday were postponed due to weather. However, the week previous, the two teams partnered with Orlando Health to host a "Pro-Am" tournament, allowing community partners to play alongside the Tars in order to raise money for the Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children. The event was a tremendous success, with more than $5,000 donated to help the kiddos.

- Women's basketball travels to Melbourne tonight in hopes to avenge an early conference defeat at the hands of the Florida Tech Panthers. Over the past two seasons, the average margin of victory has been just three points between these two. Tonight, the Tars look to ride home happy. Be sure to follow along. If history has a say, this one's coming down to the wire. Tip-off is at 5:30pm. Saturday, the women square off against SSC rival Florida Southern. Looking to duplicate last year's Senior Night performance that produced a 17-point victory over the Mocs, the Tars begin at 2pm.

- Men's basketball will follow the ladies donning the electric road blues against the Panthers. The boys are buzzing after a dominant win on Saturday, and have emerged victorious in three of the last four contests. Why can't tonight be any different? Follow along as the Tars get underway at approximately 7:30pm! On Saturday, Coach Hogan's squad will take the floor in a pivotal matchup with Florida Southern. In a battle near the top of the SSC standings, cheer on the Tars in a massive rivalry game beginning at 4pm. You know, like Duke – North Carolina, which plays second-fiddle to this one on Saturday night.

- Baseball returns for the home opener and a three-game set with the Argonauts of #11 West Florida beginning Friday at 2pm. While the season started in an MLB ballpark, the energy of the Tars faithful can make Alfond Stadium an even finer venue. After dropping the series last year, the Tars have business to attend to. The Argos are riding high off an opening weekend sweep that saw their national rank move up three spots to #11. Would be a shame if that ranking didn't last! First pitch on Saturday is at 1pm, while Super Bowl Sunday's contest is at noon. Come out before watching Drake Maye sling the pigskin!

- The Florida warmth has returned, and so too has the Tars women's tennis team. Following a cancellation last Sunday, Coach Tasi's squad returns to campus for the first spring home contest in two years! Saturday's noon match will be played at the Tennis & Golf Center, a historic occasion as it marks the first ever spring contest held at the beautiful new facility. And who better to face than the Spartans of Tampa? As the great Verne Lundquist once so eloquently uttered, "In your life, have you seen anything like that?!"

- Men's lacrosse joins in on the Tar invasion of Melbourne this week with a Saturday matinee against the men of Florida Tech. Faceoff takes place at noon as Rollins goes for ten straight victories over the Panthers!

- Finally, golf is back! The women will return to Saint Augustine where they concluded the fall season in style. The Tars took first place in the Flagler Fall Slam and hope to do the same in The World Golf Hall of Fame Invitational. The first of two rounds begin on Monday and play will conclude on Tuesday. Meanwhile, the men head to Lakeland for the Matlock Invitational taking place Monday--Tuesday as well. The Tars kicked off the fall season with a first-place finish. Why not start the spring the same way?

- Don't forget to come out to Bush Auditorium on Tuesday night, February 10, for the Beyond the Game panel, hosted by Rollins SGA! The event will highlight past and present professional athletes from around Orlando as they reflect on their lessons of leadership and life.
