February 25, 2026
Greetings #TARnation! Hard to believe we are already two months into 2026. We have a total of 16 teams and more than 400 student-athletes currently in season, so I'll do my best to get everyone caught up on the latest:Â
- Baseball earned a three-game sweep of rival Florida Southern over the weekend. The Tars outscored the Mocs 21-11, helped by Matt Mateo's two home runs and six RBI. The senior transfer (Quincy U.) is tied for the SSCÂ lead in dingers with six already on the young season. On the mound, Brett Dennis took the win in game one on Saturday, and still has not allowed an earned run this year.Â
- Women's tennis! This is not deja vu, the Tars are still hot. Rollins picked up a conference win over Eckerd (6-1) on Friday, and added another victory against Edward Waters (6-1) on Tuesday. Rollins has won their first five matches of 2026, their best start since 2009.Â
- Men's tennis is right their with the ladies, picking up a pair of wins of their own. Rollins dispatched #10 Florida Southern in superior fashion on Thursday, earning a 5-2 win. They followed with a conference road win at Eckerd on Tuesday as they cruised to a 6-1 dub against the Tritons. They have now started 3-0 for three consecutive years.Â
- Softball matched their baseball counterparts with a sweep of Florida Southern, doing with three games in Lakeland. In a show of utter domination, the Tars outscored the Mocs 24-9 in the series. Madi Carr went 6/10 with three runs, four RBI, and four doubles to pace the offense. Reese Twiggs added two more complete games to her ledger, giving her a team-high 35.1 innings and a 1.39 ERA on the year.
- Women's lacrosse was busy, playing three games last week. They posted a 2-1 record, dropping a contest to #12 Saint Leo before bouncing back for wins against Lenoir-Rhyne and Anderson. The Anderson game was a real humdinger, needing two overtimes before Delanie Abere iced it with five seconds to go for a 14-13 win.Â
- Sailing had a strong showing in Tampa, competing in the Ashley Reynolds Reali Trophy on Saturday and the USF Women's Fleet Race on Sunday. Julia Scott and Adelaide Matzky took third-place in Sunday's competition thanks to five top-five finishes and a pair of race wins. Annie Samis and Mollie Wood also recorded a win in race seven.Â
- Women's golf headed to Lakeland to take part in the Lady Moc Classic at Grasslands Golf and Country Club. Lindsay Lee was the top performer for Rollins, posting a 6th pace finish on the individual board with a 221 (+5). As a squad, the Tars took 8th in the 15 team field.Â
- Men's basketball succumbed to Barry at home and #16 Palm Beach Atlantic on Saturday. Jah Nze led the Tars in scoring both games, posting 27 against the Bucs and 25 versus the Sailfish. His efforts earned him the SSC Offensive Player of the Week award.Â
- Women's basketball fought hard, but had similar results in their matchups. They lost to Barry by a score of 73-63, and looked to have PBA's number on Saturday before a late run by the Sailfish gave them a 76-71 win. Claire Erickson was the lone senior celebrated before Saturday's game, and had a solid effort in her final home game, scoring nine points, dishing out seven assists, and grabbing five rebounds.Â
- A special thank you to all those who made a donation to Athletics during Giving Day on Thursday, February 20. Because of your generosity, more than $85,600 was raised for the department. In addition, we were able to hit our goal of 300 donors (302!), which unlocked an additional $10,000 in funds courtesy of Ron Raccuia and Legends Global Merchandise.Â
- Baseball (9-4) leads the charge for the week with a Wednesday matinee at Alfond Stadium against Flagler (12-2). The Tars will then travel to Saint Leo (8-5) for a three-game set that runs Friday-Sunday. After an off day, they welcome #13 Seton Hill (5-1) to Winter Park for a Tuesday contest.
- Both basketball teams will wrap up their regular season on Wednesday with a road trip to Nova Southeastern. The Sharks will be formidable opponents as the women are ranked #9 in the country, while the men are the top team in the nation.Â
- Softball (7-2) is back home, and will host a ranked opponent for the third straight series as they welcome #15 Saint Leo (10-2-1) to town. Rather than the standard Friday/Saturday split, the games will be played twice on Thursday (2&4pm) and once on Friday (11am) in hopes of beating potential rain on Friday afternoon.Â
- Men's tennis (3-0) is entering their grind mode, playing three matches this week. They will be in South Florida for matchups against Palm Beach Atlantic (0-6) and St. Thomas (1-3) before returning to campus to host #19 Wingate (4-0) on Monday.Â
- Similar to the men, women's tennis (5-0) will also play Palm Beach Atlantic (0-6) on the road before hosting Wingate (4-0) in Winter Park.Â
- Men's lacrosse (1-2) is in action for the first time since Valentine's Day when they head up to St. Augustine to face the #17 Flagler Saints (3-2) on Friday night under the lights. The Tars are 3-1 against the Saints over the past four years, though Flagler took last year's contest by a score of 13-6.Â
- Sailing is headed to Charleston for a two-day event in the Palmetto State.Â
- Rowing will mark the official start to their season by hosting the TARS Regatta on Lake Maitland on Saturday.Â
- Women's lacrosse (4-1) is on the docket once this week, hosting the Westminster Griffins (1-0) on Sunday afternoon at Cahall-Sandspur Field. In their lone previous matchup in 2019, Rollins won 19-1.Â
