Rollins Wins Road 2OT Thriller

ANDERSON, S.C. (February 24, 2026) – No. 18 Rollins women's lacrosse delivered another road thriller on Tuesday afternoon, defeating (RV) Anderson 14-13 in double overtime behind Delanie Abere's golden-goal finish.

Three Tars recorded hat tricks in the victory, as Gabby Yerardi, Chloe Pierini, and Katie Bell each tallied three goals. Yerardi added an assist to lead the team in points, while Abere finished with two goals (including the game-winner) and an assist. Fiona Rizzo, Holyn Trautwein, and Audrey Grace Mumford each contributed a goal in the balanced offensive effort.

Defensively, Ava Capasso led the way with four ground balls and a caused turnover. Grace Barta, Virginia Stone, Julia Newby, and Rizzo each forced turnovers to help anchor the unit. In goal, Alyssa Lentz was yet again a force, turning aside 13 shots to earn the win.

Both teams opened with scoreless possessions before Rollins broke through, Delaney Hudson finding Bell inside to give the Tars the early lead. Anderson answered quickly, but Abere converted on a free-position opportunity to put Rollins back in front, 2-1, a margin the Tars carried through the opening quarter.

The second frame featured momentum swings on both sides. Rollins capitalized on a Trojan card as Rizzo connected with Pierini to extend the lead, and Abere set up Yerardi to make it 4-1. Anderson responded with four unanswered goals to surge ahead 5-4. Bell halted the run off a feed from Yerardi, and Rizzo converted a free-position chance to briefly reclaim the advantage. The Trojans answered with back-to-back goals, but with less than 10 seconds remaining in the half, Bell completed her hat trick on a free position to send the teams into the break tied 7-7.

Trautwein opened scoring in the third with a woman-up free-position goal, pushing Rollins ahead. Anderson countered with consecutive tallies to even the contest once more before Hudson found Mumford for the go-ahead strike, giving Rollins a 10-9 lead entering the fourth.

The final quarter delivered more drama.
Anderson tied the game early, but Pierini answered off a Trojan turnover to complete her hat trick. A woman-up goal for Anderson tied the score for the eighth time. After nearly eight scoreless minutes, the Trojans broke through with just over three minutes to play. Rollins responded immediately, Yerardi finding space to knot the game again at 12-12. Anderson regained the lead with under a minute left, but the Tars refused to fold. Drawing a free-position opportunity in the closing seconds, Yerardi stepped up and buried the equalizer with 16 seconds remaining to force overtime.

The extra sessions were defined by defense.
Anderson controlled the opening possession of overtime, but Rollins forced a turnover. Both teams traded stops and empty possessions, including key saves and a free-position opportunity that sailed wide, sending the contest into double overtime.
In the second extra period, Lentz came up with another critical stop on a free-position attempt to keep the Tars alive. With under a minute to play, Rollins secured possession and pushed in transition. Abere broke free in front of the cage, buried the shot, and lifted the Tars to the 14-13 golden-goal victory.

Rollins improves to 4-1 on the season and returns home Sunday, March 1, hosting Westminster at 1 p.m. at Cahall-Sandspur Field.
