Tars Sweep in Spring Season Debut

Rollins got off to a hot start in spring competition on Monday defeating Bates College, 7-0 on Kids Day

Box Score WINTER PARK, Fla. (February 16, 2026) – The Rollins men's tennis team cruised to their first win Monday afternoon in their inaugural spring match at the beautiful Tennis & Golf Center. Playing in front of a rowdy, "Kids Day" crowd, the Tars did not disappoint, securing a 7-0 sweep of the Bates College Bobcats.

Rollins got off to a hot start, striking with a quick victory on the first court of duo action. Richard Stoiberer and Pete Tran locked up the win in the minimum, six sets to nothing. Shortly thereafter, teammates Mo Anterist and Pietro Cappellaro clinched the doubles point with a 6-3 result on court two. Finally, with the support of their teammates and a crowded upper deck of the Tennis & Golf Center, the Tars faithful were treated to a comeback victory on the third doubles court. Debuting as a combination, Lawson Prather and Nico de Giacomo rallied from an initial deficit to grab hold of a late lead and never gave it back, taking home a 6-4 win and an overall team sweep of the doubles action.

Prather showed no signs of wear leading off singles action for Rollins. Playing from the number one spot, the first year Tar clinched his first career spring season win in convincing fashion, 6-0, 6-1. Meanwhile, Pietro Cappellaro was humming on court five, riding the momentum from a doubles win. Cappellaro put the Tars in position to seal the overall match victory by winning 6-2, 6-0, increasing the Rollins advantage to three matches to zero.

From there, it was a race to see which Tar would officially lock down the first win of the season. With smooth playing on court six, Pete Tran got the honors, serving up a 6-2, 6-1 straight set outcome. Nico de Giacomo extended the Rollins lead to 5-0 on the overall match scoreboard. The third-year player nabbed a 6-2,6-2 win to pull the Tars one step closer to a clean sweep. With his entire team behind him, Richard Stoiberer ensured that it would indeed be all Rollins in straight sets. The senior earned a 6-4, 6-3 win on court two, adding to history in the process.

Head Coach Jay Friedman had this to say about the team's performance: "Great opening day for us after the long wait. It was so nice to have the kids out there for Kids Day! What a crowd to get the new home started. For sure now we are all focused on Thursday."
The showdown Coach Friedman speaks of is a date with conference rival Florida Southern. The Mocs pay a visit to Winter Park on Thursday for a 3pm tilt with your Tars. Be sure to catch the men in action for Hispanic Club Day and what promises to be an intense, action-packed match!
