LAKELAND, Fla. (February 10, 2026) - Men's golf opened their spring season with a sixth-place finish at the Matlock Invitational, hosted by Florida Southern at Lone Palm Golf Club.
The Tars came out strong in Monday's morning round, playing as a team to even par, putting them in third place.
Mick Herron used four birdies and a bogey-free front nine to finish two-under. Behind him by one shot was Clarence Chapman, who had a similar front nine and three birdies to sit at 71.
Sean Dobson bounced back from a bogey/bogey start to finish the round at even par.
Andrew Clark was the final piece of the first round puzzle with a three-over 75.
The afternoon round was a different story, unfortunately. Dobson was the only Tar to finish his round under par. The junior from England put five birdies on his card in the round to finish with a two-under 70. Chapman was next in line with a two-over 74, but had the highlight of the day with an eagle on the par five 17th. Herron carded a 77 and
Jules Haessig was six-over to give Rollins a 299.
Tuesday's final round was an 8:30am shotgun start. Once again, Dobson stayed dialed in, posting three birdies and a bogey-free front nine to finish with a 71 on the day. Chapman had the short game going as well, cashing in five birdies and finishing even at 72. Clark and Haessig each scored a 77 to finish the team score of 297.
Rollins ended the event in sixth with a final score of +20. West Florida showed why they are #4 in the country, running away with the win at 17-under. Host Florida Southern was runner-up at -10, followed by Nova Southeastern, Saint Leo, and Eckerd to round out the Top 5.
Dobson ended in a tie for sixth overall out of 80 participants, finishing three-under (213). Chapman tied for 15th with a 217 (+1). Florida Southern's Donte Groppuso took the individual trophy with an impressive 203 (-13).
