Tars Drop Home Contest Against Fighting Knights

Lynn defeated Rollins 86-69 on Wednesday evening

WINTER PARK, Fla. (January 28, 2026) - Men's basketball dropped just their third home game of the season on Wednesday as they fell to Lynn by a score of 86-69. The Tars now stand at 11-9, 5-7 SSC while the Fighting Knights improve to 11-8, 6-6 SSC.

Rollins jumped out to a 3-0 lead when Jackson Gaffney knocked down a three on their second possession, but that would be the only time all night that the Tars held an advantage. The game tied at three, five, and seven points, but after that it was all Lynn. Matus Malovec provided some early energy, snagging offensive rebounds and scoring twice in the paint before the first media timeout. Still, the Knights were getting decently open looks while the Tars had to fight for any type of open shot early on.

Late in the first half, Rollins seemingly stopped the Knights offense, but they recovered and knocked down a three as a whistle was being blown for a technical foul. The deflating blow put Rollins down by double digits, and seemed to stall any momentum they had for the rest of the half. Lynn held a 48-38 advantage at the buzzer.

Rollins was 13-31 (42%) from the floor in the first half, but managed just four makes on 15 three-point attempts.

The Knights then put the game out of reach when they scored the first ten points of the second half. Omar Figueroa snapped the cold streak with a three, and the team showed plenty of fight as they tried to get back in the game. They received a couple of sparks off the bench from the playmaking of Michael Kalina and the three-point shooting of Michael Niemann. Ricky Ghedini also had a solid game, dishing out a team-high six assists while scoring nine points and grabbing six boards.

As the second half wore on, the Knights were either hitting their open looks, or snagging offensive rebounds. They ended up with 15 offensive boards in the game. And while the Tars kept playing tough, they could not overcome the deficit, leading to a 86-69 defeat.

Figueroa led the team with 15 points, adding four rebounds and two assists. Kalina was efficient in his 17 minutes of play, scoring a season-high eight to go with five rebounds and three assists. John Roland led Lynn with an 18 point, 11 rebound double-double.

Next up for the Tars is ahome game against Eckerd on Saturday, January 31. Tipoff is scheduled for 4:00 pm from Warden Arena.
