WINTER PARK, Fla. (January 31, 2026) - Men's basketball bounced back in a big way on Saturday, earning a 90-65 win over Eckerd. The victory moves the Tars to 12-9 on the year and 6-7 in SSC play. The Tritons drop to 10-10, 4-9 SSC.
When
Mayson Quartlebaum grabbed a rebound and scored on the Tars' first possession, it set the tone for the whole game. Rollins scored on their first six trips down the court, with
Jackson Gaffney knocking down a pair of shots. Not even five minutes into the game, Rollins was up 16-5.Â
Points in the paint were easy to come by as the size and driving ability from the Tars was too much for the Tritons to handle. On top of that, Rollins' team defense was dialed in, forcing tough shots and few second chance points. By the end of the first half, it was 43-27 in favor of the home team.Â
Rollins shot 18-33 (55%) in the first half, including 14-19 on two-point shots. Meanwhile, the Tritons only managed nine makes on 25 shots (36%).Â
The second half played almost the same way with dominance from the Tars on both ends. Quartlebaum was locked in offensively, scoring 11 points in the final frame, including the highlight of the year for the senior. After picking the pocket of Dante Bouchard on a dribble drive, Quartlebaum took the ball coast to coast and flushed a monster dunk on Caden Walton to put an exclamation point on the big day.Â
Rollins would go on to win 90-65. Quartlebaum led all scorers with 25 points on 11-15 shooting while adding five rebounds and three assists.
Omar Figueroa added 19,
Jah Nze had 15 and five assists, and
Ricky Ghedini stuffed the stat sheet with eight points, nine rebounds, and five assists. Defensively, Rollins held the Tritons' leading scorer, Wyatt Triestman, scoreless across 23 minutes.Â
The Tars will look to carry the momentum with them on the road to Melbourne on Wednesday, February 4 when they take on Florida Tech. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 pm.Â
