Tars Go Undefeated at the Concord Classic

Athens, West Virginia – Rollins capped a perfect weekend at the Concord Classic with two more victories on Saturday, rallying past West Virginia Wesleyan in five sets (23-25, 22-25, 25-23, 25-21, 15-6) before downing host Concord in four (14-25, 25-12, 26-24, 25-14).

The opener against WVWC was a grind from the start, the Bobcats stringing together a mid-set run to grab the edge in the first. Rollins fought back to tie it at 20-all, but three straight points put Wesleyan out front for the early lead. Set two followed with more swings of momentum before the Bobcats closed on a six-point surge to take control and move ahead 2-0. The Tars didn't fold, clawing back in a third set that featured 16 ties and four lead changes. Down 16-21, Rollins found a spark from Robinson Repass and rode kills from Marta Tsaneva and Vivian Scuteri to extend the match. The Tars carried that energy into the fourth, building separation and fending off late counters to force a decisive fifth. Momentum was all Rollins from there, the team hitting a match-best .438 in the frame to storm past the Bobcats and complete the comeback.

Three Tars posted double-digit kills, with Tsaneva, Makayla Moran, and Cameron Grange leading the charge. Grange added a match-high three aces, while Moran and Scuteri dominated at the net, combining for more than 20 block assists.

Against Concord, the Tars regrouped quickly after the hosts rode an early seven-point run to take the opening set. Rollins flipped the momentum in the second, firing on all cylinders to hit .500 in the frame and square the match. The Tars jumped ahead in the third and held the lead until late, when Concord tied it at 19. From there, Rollins came up clutch, with a Tsaneva kill and block on back-to-back plays, sealing the set. The Tars never trailed in the fourth, controlling the tempo to close out the match and the weekend.

Tsaneva again paced the attack with 15 kills, while Grange chipped in 12 and Elena Arnold added 11 at a .529 clip. Addilyn Keggereis also stood out offensively, leading the team with a .556 hitting percentage and contributing two block assists. In the middle, Moran tallied four block assists, and Seabrooke anchored the defense with 10 digs. Garza and Morris combined for 45+ assists to guide the balanced attack.

Following the conclusion of the tournament, two Tars were given recognition on the Concord Classic All-Tournament Team in Moran and Tsaneva. Both were critical for Rollins, combining for over 70 kills and 30 blocks between them.

Rollins leaves West Virginia at 10-2 overall and returns home for its first match in Winter Park on Wednesday, Sept. 24, at 6 p.m. against Flagler. The contest will serve as the team's Mental Health Awareness Game. Fans unable to make it to campus can follow along at RollinsSports.com via live stats and live stream coverage.
