Rollins Rolls Through Day One of Concord Classic

Athens, West Virginia – Rollins opened the first day of the Concord Classic with a pair of wins, knocking off Winston-Salem State (25-13, 25-19, 19-25, 25-17) before sweeping Davis & Elkins (25-13, 25-12, 25-23).

The Rams hung around early in set one, but a Makayla Moran kill gave Rollins the edge, and the Tars never looked back. A six-point closing run sealed the opener. Set two followed a similar script, with back-and-forth rallies until Rylee Yarborough sparked an eight-point burst to create separation and push Rollins to a two-set lead. Winston-Salem State responded in the third, forcing the Tars to rally from behind. Rollins tied it at 19-all, but the Rams closed strong to extend the match. The Tars quickly regrouped in the fourth, jumping out early and staying in front the rest of the way to lock down the win.

It was a balanced attack for Rollins, as Moran and Cameron Grange each tallied 13 kills. Moran hit .526 and added a team-high four block assists, while Grange chipped in three aces. Setter Jenna Garza dished out 30+ assists for the second straight match, and libero Sarah Seabrooke anchored the back row with 16 digs.

In the nightcap, the Tars wasted no time. Molly Morris strung together a run from the service line to help Rollins cruise through the first set. Any doubt was erased in the second, as Davis & Elkins errors opened the door for the Tars to extend their lead. The Senators pushed back in the third, but Rollins closed on a three-point run to complete the sweep.

Moran paced the offense again with eight kills on a blistering .500-plus hitting percentage. Garza and Kyla Krimmel shared the team lead in serving with three aces apiece, while Moran and Robinson Repass each recorded five block assists to lead the defense at the net.

Rollins improves to 8-2 on the year and continues play in West Virginia on Saturday, September 20, with matches against West Virginia Wesleyan at 12 p.m. and the host Concord at 4 p.m.
