CLEVELAND, Tenn. (September 16, 2025) - Women's golf began their 2025-26 season in a loaded field at the South Regional Preview, hosted by Lee University at Cleveland Country Club.
Rollins was sitting pretty after Monday's first round after they fired a 296, good for second in the standings. Freshman
Leah Li paced the club with a one-under 71 in her first collegiate round that included three birdies and 13 pars. Senior
Sarah Knitter was right behind her with an even 72 and a team best four birdies.
Lindsay Lee (76) and
Addy Vogt (77) closed out the scoring for the Tars.
After a quick break, it was on to round two on Monday afternoon. It was a different story in the second go-round as Rollins ended with a 307. Lee was the leader in the round for the Tars, posting a one-over 73. Li was a stroke behind with her 74, but the final two scores from Knitter and Vogt were both 80. The fourth hole in particular was tough for Rollins as four of the five golfers carded double bogey.
Round three was not kind to the Tars as they handed in a final card of 318. Vogt was the third different player to lead the team in scoring, posting a 78 in her final round. Li and Lee each had a 79, and Knitter recorded an 82 to wrap up the scoring.
Li had the best overall finish for Rollins, placing 13th in the 93-player field with a 224 (+8).
"It was nice to give the players a good look at the site of the South Regional Championship in case we have the opportunity to compete in May," remarked head coach
Julie Garner. "That being said, I think we were not as well-prepared as we could have been, and that's my fault as the head coach. It's a couple of weeks earlier than we normally start our fall season, and I did not have them as ready as I would've liked."
Rollins will look to bounce back this weekend when they head to Pennsylvania to take part in the Nittany Lion Invitational, hosted by Penn State. Garner believes her team will be refocused and ready to compete with the field of Division I teams.
"There were a lot of bright spots in the event, including some great individual rounds. Coach Dev and I appreciate the fight the girls showed even when things were not going their way. It's a quick turnaround before the Nittany Lion Invitational, and I think our team will have their feet under them a bit better. This was a great learning opportunity for them. Go Tars!"
