Moran Dominant as Tars Earn Another Win in Alaska

Fairbanks, Alaska – Rollins picked up another win at the Ice Block Classic on Friday, downing Rockhurst in four sets (25-18, 25-21, 23-25, 25-21).

The Tars set the tone early, building a cushion in the opening frame and holding off the Hawks' late push to grab the first set. Set two featured a tight back-and-forth before Rollins strung together key points late, fueled by Makayla Moran's big night at the net, to take control and extend the match lead. Rockhurst battled back in the third, edging out the Tars in another close set to cut the deficit. The fourth mirrored much of the same, the two sides trading points until Rollins broke through down the stretch, riding the momentum to close out the win.

Moran was nearly unstoppable in the win, posting 20 kills on a blistering .760 hitting percentage. Fellow middle Vivian Scuteri turned in a standout performance of her own with 12 kills at a .667 clip, adding a team-high eight blocks. Cameron Grange stayed consistent with another double-digit kill outing, leading the team in the service category with three service aces. In the setting department, both Molly Morris and Jenna Garza once again handed out 20+ assists to guide the balanced attack.

The win moves Rollins to 6-1 on the season. The Tars wrap up their trip to Alaska on Saturday, Sept. 13, against California State University, San Bernardino, at 6:30 p.m. EST (2:30 p.m. local).
