These teams have not let much shake them this year and today was no different. We received an email last night at 7:15pm letting everyone know that the finals were being moved from 1pm and later to start in just twelve short hours at 7:30am.
The Men's 2V4 had posted the fastest times through time trial and semis and then backed that up with a wire to wire win. Drexel did make a last second push which fell short by just .8 seconds.
The Women's V8 had a duel race against Division 2 rival Jefferson. These two crews had not lined up next to each other all season and both crews knew the importance of this race. An NCAA at large bid was on the line and the Rollins win by 4 seconds helps them towards this season long task. Rollins will know their fate on May 20th.
The Men's Novice 4 quest for an undefeated season fell just short. The boat posted great times through time trials and semis and Florida Tech just got the best of them in the last 500 to finish with a silver medal.
The Women's DII4 placed fourth and was off of the pace from DII Jefferson. This boat is also part of the selection process for an NCAA bid on May 20th.
The women's pair worked hard to earn their way into the grand finals and ended the regatta with a solid fifth-place finish.
The Men's Varsity 4 placed sixth in the grand finals and the difference between third and sixth was just four seconds. These guys had a heck of a race and there was no break away point between any of these crews. It is not only awesome watching a race with so many boats in contention but being part of it is even better.
Thank you to all our seniors for their contributions and leadership in the program. Those who are continuing will build on what you have done and continue to make Rollins a force to recon with no matter what body of water we put our shells on.
