MROW V8 John Ferriss 2025

Men's Rowing

Four Medals at John Ferriss

GAINESVILLE, Ga. (March 22, 2025) – The Rollins men were able to hang four medals around their necks on Saturday. The team traveled to the John Ferriss Lanier Sprints Regatta in Gainesville, Georgia to compete against 15 schools they had not seen this season. The Varsity 8 was the only boat that had to race a heat and final. The guys finished second in their heat, just eight seconds behind Georgia Tech. The time does not tell the whole story. About 1000m into the race, one of the Rollins Rowers caught a crab that almost ejected him from the boat. During the next 10 strokes, the rower was able to get his feet back in his shoes, get the oar back in his hands and pick back up. The men felt good as they headed to the line for the finals knowing they had more to show. It was a tight race between the top three crews: UNC, Georgia Tech and Rollins. Rollins unfortunately could not hold on and finished in third, 1.4 seconds out of second and 6.1 seconds out of first.

The varsity 4 (Theodore Preaus, Cooper Richart, Costa Demetriades, James Cone, Brennan Duntley) and novice 4 (Claire Opal-Levine, Dylan Drew, Arturs Bergs, Devlin Beaubouef, Enrique Mediato Diaz) both finished first in their respective races and posted the fastest time out of all the flights in their events. The Varsity 4 B won their flight, earning a gold medal and posting the fifth-fastest time of the 12 boats entered.

Rollins also boated a JV8 who finished fourth in their event. All the crews handled the wind much better than they have this season which shows great progress and why we race as much as possible early in the season. The experience gained and training from rowing multiple races in one day will pay dividends as we move into the championship part of the season.

Rollins is in Sarasota next Saturday for the FIRA Championships. The team looks to build on this weekend's success, strives to make up ground on some of the Florida teams that are ahead of them and keep their eye on SIRA (Oak Ridge, Tenn.) which is just a short three weeks away.
