DELAND, Fla. (March 15, 2025) – Saturday's racing at the Stetson Scramble was rough in many ways for the Rollins Men. The teams in attendance were Stetson, Jacksonville, Wesleyan and Embry-Riddle. Wesleyan is one of the top Division 3 teams in the country and the other three Florida schools are moving up the ranks as well. Rollins had their work cut out for them and were not able to put the day together. The first rough part of the day were the conditions. The wind increased to 17 mph and you knew it was rough when every boat came back to the dock and dumped gallons of water from their boats when they went over head after the race. In the Varsity 8 Rollins was well off the pace finishing 25 seconds off the pace of the other 3 crews. The Men's 2nd Varsity 8 was very similar. "The conditions were brutal," said Assistant Coach
Sean Gustafson. "The team and the rowers did not use this as an excuse since every crew was dealt the same conditions. We just realized we did not handle the situation well and plan on being better in the future." The entire day was not lost as the Rollins men fielded two boats in the Varsity 4 race finishing first and second in the event. (Boat 1 –
Theodore Preaus,
Cooper Richart,
Costa Demetriades,
James Cone,
Brennan Duntley; Boat 2 –
Ava Ciano,
Reese Duntley,
Weston Hollmann,
Samuel McCullen,
Beau Christopher).

Rollins hits the road again on Friday as they head to Gainesville, Georgia for the John Ferriss Regatta. The teams will see new club and varsity teams that they have not competed against this season and ones they will likely face again at SIRA in April. The men's varsity 8 won this event last year and are looking to regroup and defend this win in 2025.
