WINTER PARK, Fla. (April 9, 2025) – The Rollins men's lacrosse team pulled of a 15-9 upset win over 15th-ranked Saint Leo on Wednesday night at Cahall-Sandspur Field. The Tars are now 6-7 on the year, 3-2 in SSC play, while the Lions drop to 8-5 overall, 2-3 in conference games.
Aaron Williams led all players five goals while
Sam Mattson tallied three goals and
Seth Isenhour chipped in with two goals and two assists.
Maxwell Beuck (6-7) stopped 10 of the 18 shots he faced to earn the win.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
First Quarter
- Isenhour scored just seven seconds into the game to set the tone for the Tars.
- After Saint Leo briefly took a 2-1 lead, Williams scored to tie things up.
- Chad Bulera followed with a goal and Williams then put home his second to make it 4-2 Tars.
- Each team scored in the final minutes of the frame, with Isenhour netting his first of the night to give the Blue and Gold a 5-3 edge after one.
Second Quarter
- Williams scored the first three goals of the second quarter with Carder Ungerott following with his first career goal to make it 9-3 Tars.
- The Lions got two goals back before the half to make it a 9-5 game at the break.
Third Quarter
- Jack Johnstone opened the scoring in the second half with Owen Lammy then netting his first career goal to increase the lead to 11-5.
- Saint Leo found some momentum, scoring three times in the span of 2:19 to cut the deficit to 11-8, but the Tars stemmed the tide from there, with Mattson scoring in the final minute of the quarter to give Rollins a 12-8 advantage heading to the fourth.
Fourth Quarter
- Mattson scored two more goals in the fourth, along with one from Bulera, as Rollins extended its lead, eventually claiming a 15-9 win.
