Tars Win Fourth Straight

Rollins took down Florida Tech on Saturday, 10-9

MELBOURNE, Fla. (April 12, 2025) – The Rollins men's lacrosse team extended its win streak to four games on Saturday with a 10-9 win at Florida Tech. The Tars are now 7-7 on the year, 4-2 in conference play, while the Panthers fall to 6-8 overall, 2-4 in SSC games.
 
Jack Johnstone was the star offensively, finishing with five goals, three ground balls, and an assist, while Sam Mattson added three goals. Maxwell Beuck (7-7) earned the win in goal, stopping 12 of the 21 shots he faced.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
First Quarter
  • Each team scored in the first 47 seconds of the contest, with Charlie Metz answering an early goal from Florida Tech to tie the game at one.
  • Mattson quickly put the Tars up 2-1, but the Panthers answered less than a minute later to tie it at two.
  • Mattson and Johnstone recorded the next two goals to make it 4-2 Rollins before Florida Tech got one back late in the quarter, cutting the deficit to 4-3 after one period.
Second Quarter
  • Mattson opened the scoring in the second quarter and Johnstone followed up with back-to-back goals to give the Tars a 7-3 edge.
  • The Panthers got the final marker of the half, but the Blue and Gold still had a solid 7-4 lead at the break.
Third Quarter
  • Florida Tech scored the first goal of the third quarter, but Johnstone responded with two goals just 34 seconds apart, building the lead to 9-5.
  • After a Panther goal made it 9-6, Logan McHugh found the back of the net to make it a 10-6 game.
  • Florida Tech tallied a goal in the closing minutes of the frame to trim the lead to 10-7 heading to the fourth.
Fourth Quarter
  • Rollins couldn't find its footing offensively in the fourth, but the defense held strong, limiting the Panthers to a pair of goals as the Tars held on for a 10-9 win.
 
UP NEXT:
Rollins will wrap up the regular season on Wednesday, April 16th, when the Tars visit 14th-ranked Embry-Riddle at 12 p.m.
