IRVINE, Calif. (March 8, 2025) – The 14th-ranked Rollins men's lacrosse team came up short on Saturday, falling to Concordia Irvine 12-11 in overtime. The Tars are now 3-3 on the season, while the Golden Eagles go to 2-5.
Logan Myers led the Tars with three goals, while
Sean Caracciolo tallied two goals and an assist.
Maxwell Beuck (3-3) stopped 18 of the 30 shots he faced in goal.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
First Quarter
- Caracciolo opened the scoring less than 90 seconds into the game, but Concordia Irvine tied things up at one at the 8:40 mark of the quarter.
- The Golden Eagles took their first lead just under four minutes later, with Myers answering back to tie it at two with 2:45 left in the period.
- CUI retook the lead with a goal 31 seconds later, and the home team held that 3-2 lead until the end of the quarter.
Second Quarter
- The Golden Eagles struck for two early goals the second, pushing their lead to 5-2.
- Jack Johnstone scored to make it 5-3, but CUI responded quickly to make it 6-3 near the halfway point of the quarter.
- Joe DeGaetano and Williams each scored in the closing minutes of the half, with the Golden Eagles adding one goal in between, giving the home side a 7-5 edge at the break.
Third Quarter
- CUI scored in the opening minute to make it 8-5, but Logan McHugh and Sam Mattson each netted goals just 28 seconds apart to cut the deficit to 8-7 with 7:08 on the clock.
- Concordia Irvine made it 9-7 a few minutes later, with Caracciolo answering back to make it 9-8 with 2:10 left.
- The Golden Eagles found a late goal to carry a 10-8 advantage to the fourth quarter.
Fourth Quarter
- After CUI extended its lead to 11-8, Myers and Williams scored 58 seconds apart, making it a one-goal game at 11-10 with just over nine minutes to play.
- Beuck came up big, making five saves over the next five minutes to keep the Tars in it, and Myers delivered the game-tying goal with 3:35 left, knotting the score at 11.
- Mattson had a shot to win it with 21 seconds left, but the Golden Eagles goalie made the save, sending the game to overtime.
Overtime
- In the extra frame, Beuck stopped the first shot he saw, giving the Tars an opportunity at the other end.
- A pair of Rollins shots missed, one wide and one blocked, and the Golden Eagles came back down the field to score the game-winner with 46 seconds left in the period, claiming the 12-11 victory.
