Tars Fall to No. 1 Tampa on Senior Day

Rollins fell by a 16-11 score on Saturday

WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 29, 2025) – The Rollins men's lacrosse team came up short on Senior Day on Saturday, falling to top-ranked Tampa, 16-11. The Tars drop to 3-7 overall, 0-2 in SSC play, while the Spartans go to 11-0, 2-0 in conference.
 
Nate Paulo led all players with five goals while Jack Johnstone tallied a goal and two assists. Thomas Garvin was 13-for-20 in faceoffs with a team-high five ground balls, and Maxwell Beuck (3-7) made seven saves on 23 shots in goal.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
First Quarter
  • Tampa opened the scoring just eight seconds into the game, but Seth Isenhour tied things up at one just over a minute later.
  • The Spartans put home three more goals in the quarter to take a 4-1 lead into the second.
Second Quarter
  • After Tampa scored the opening goal of the period, Max Armitage scored to make it 5-2.
  • Following another Spartan goal, Sam Mattson found the back of the net to cut the deficit to 6-3.
  • Tampa scored two more before the half, with Paulo also finding the net for his first goal of the game, pushing the score to 8-4 Tampa at the half.
Third Quarter
  • The visitors scored in the first minute of the third quarter, but Paulo tallied the next two markers to cut it to 9-6.
  • After two more Spartan goals, Aaron Williams scored to make it 11-7.
  • Tampa scored 34 seconds later, but Paulo's third of the quarter and fourth of the game kept things close at 12-8 as the game went into the fourth quarter.
Fourth Quarter
  • Williams scored just over a minute into the final frame, getting Rollins back within three at 12-9.
  • Tampa scored the next two goals before Johnstone put one home, and the Spartans then tacked on two more before Paulo's fifth score of the game made it 16-11, where it would finish.
 
UP NEXT:
Rollins will be back at home on Wednesday, April 2nd, as it hosts Florida Southern in another SSC contest, slated to begin at 8 p.m.
