WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 25, 2025) – The 13th-ranked Rollins women's lacrosse team mounted a valiant comeback on Tuesday night but came up just short in a 15-14 double overtime defeat to seventh-ranked Embry-Riddle. The Tars drop to 7-3 overall, 0-1 in SSC play, while the Eagles go to 10-1, 1-0 in conference.
Katie Bell led the Tars with four goals while
Delanie Abere tallied three goals and two ground balls.
Sydney Nickel contributed a goal, an assist, two ground balls, two draw controls, and three caused turnovers.
Anya Studebaker (1-1) made seven saves on 14 shots in 33:46 of relief but suffered the defeat in goal.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
First Quarter
- Tess Hovivian scored the opening goal but Embry-Riddle answered back with three straight goals to go up 3-1 after one quarter.
Second Quarter
- After ERAU scored 1:23 into the second, Abere and Aleksa Allen scored 37 seconds apart to cut the deficit to 4-3.
- The Eagles scored the next four goals before Alicia Cannon got on back for the Blue and Gold, making it an 8-4 ERAU lead at the break.
Third Quarter
- The Tars came out strong in the third, scoring four straight goals to tie the game at eight.
- After the visitors regained the lead, Abere put home a woman-down goal with 26 seconds left in the period to tie the game at nine.
Fourth Quarter
- Fiona Rizzo and Bell netted the first two goals of the fourth to give Rollins its first lead since the opening minutes.
- Embry-Riddle scored a couple minutes later to make it 11-10 Rollins, but Abigail DeGroat put home a goal to regain the two-goal cushion at 12-10.
- The visitors then strung together four consecutive goals in just over five minutes of play, giving ERAU a 14-12 lead with 3:14 to play.
- Bell scored with a minute to play and Rizzo came up with a huge woman-down goal with just 20 seconds left, knotting things up at 14.
Overtime
- The Tars fought off three penalties in the first overtime period, but the Eagles were able to find the game-winner with 2:14 left in the second overtime to claim a 15-14 win.
