WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 8, 2025) – The Rollins women saw their first taste of Division 2 competition this past weekend at the Rollins invitational. The Tars welcomed Embry-Riddle, Barry and the University of Florida to Lake Maitland. The morning started on glassy water with the Division 2 four race (
Dinah Rofman,
Sophie Bolan,
Erin Hughes,
Maisie Cunningham,
Sarah Monroy) where Embry-Riddle finished first, Rollins just four seconds back for second and Barry 21 seconds later for third. The next race was the varsity eight with a similar order of finish but adding Florida into the mix who finished fourth. Embry-Riddle proved why they earned the southern bid to the NCAA's last year and has given the Tars a time to eat into. "Right now Embry-Riddle is the DII team to chase and it looks like it will be a battle amongst the rest of us in the South," stated Coach Thompson.
Rollins raced a second varsity 8 and varsity 4 who both finished second. The Tars also boated novice 8 (
Kailin Liang,
Abby Zana,
Elizabeth Hanna,
Angelique Harrington,
Maria Jose Florez,
Alena Logan,
Liesel Hartwig,
Serenity Rosier,
Falland Delice), novice 4 and varsity 4 B who all finished second. The team is always looking to hang medals around their necks every weekend and despite not doing that here, they had solid racing, gained more experience and are looking forward to their spring break training to keep finding more speed.
Rollins will be at Stetson this coming weekend where they will see Nova Southeastern for the first time this season. Then the following weekend they head to Gainesville, Georgia where they hope to line up against a bunch of crews they have yet to see.
