ANDERSON, S.C. (February 9, 2025) – The eighth-ranked Rollins men's lacrosse team survived a scare from 20th-ranked Anderson on Sunday, scoring two goals in the final 2:20 to escape with a 14-13 win over the Trojans. The Tars move to 2-0 on the year, while AU drops to 1-1.
Max Armitage led the way with four goals, including the game-winner, while
Logan Myers,
Sam Mattson, and
Jack Johnstone all chipped in with three goals and an assist each.
Nate Paulo tallied four assists, and
Maxwell Beuck (2-0) made 12 saves to earn the win in goal.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
First Quarter
- Armitage wasted no time making his mark on the contest, scoring the first three goals of the game.
- Myers and Mattson each tallied late markers in the first to push the Tars to a 5-0 lead after one quarter of play.
Second Quarter
- Johnstone netted a pair of goals that each answered Anderson tallies, giving the Tars a 7-2 edge.
- Following two Trojan goals, the Blue and Gold got goals from Will Brandt, Myers, and Johnstone, increasing the lead to 10-4 at the half.
Third Quarter
- Myers and Mattson each scored once in the third quarter, while Anderson also found the net twice, moving the score to 12-6 with 15 minutes to play.
Fourth Quarter
- The Trojans caught fire in the fourth, scoring seven straight goals to take a 13-12 lead with 3:56 to play.
- Just over 90 seconds later, Mattson scored to tie the game, and with 1:28 to go, Armitage found the back of the net for the game-winner, giving the Tars a 14-13 win.
