WINTER PARK, Fla. (February 8, 2025) – The Rollins women's lacrosse team came up short in its season opener on Saturday, falling to the defending national champion Tampa Spartans by a score of 26-9.
 
Hudson Delaney led the Tars with three goals and three assists, while 
Abigail DeGroat and 
Madison McGarry each chipped in with a pair of goals. 
Holyn Trautwein led the team with six draw controls, and 
Angelina Vitale (0-1) made one save on 16 shots in just under 30 minutes in goal.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
First Quarter
	- DeGroat opened the scoring just over a minute into the contest, but Tampa answered back with three straight goals in less than two minutes to go up 3-1.
- Rollins got back within a goal as DeGroat netted her second marker with 8:08 left in the quarter, only to see the Spartans score the next six goals to take a 9-2 lead into the second period.
Second Quarter
	- Hudson scored 1:20 into the second, and after a Tampa goal, Katie Bell and Sydney Nickel each found the back of the net in the span of 41 seconds, trimming the deficit to 10-5.
- The Spartans then scored five straight before Hudson potted her second of the game, making it 15-6.
- Tampa got one more goal late in the half to carry a 16-6 edge into the break.
Third Quarter
	- McGarry scored the lone Rollins goal of the third as Tampa pulled away to a 22-7 advantage.
Fourth Quarter
	- McGarry and Hudson each scored for the Blue and Gold in the final 15 minutes as the Spartans held on for a 26-9 victory.
