No. 21 Tars Overpower Anderson, 16-9

Rollins is now 3-2 on the season

WINTER PARK, Fla. (February 28, 2025) – The 21st-ranked Rollins women's lacrosse team was victorious Friday night over visiting Anderson, 16-9. The Tars improve to 3-2 with the win, while the Trojans drop to 1-2.
 
Katie Bell led the way with four goals and an assist, while Delanie Abere chipped in with a goal and three assists. Jayme Weber, Aleksa Allen, Abigail DeGroat, and Madison McGarry all tallied two goals, and Holyn Trautwein tallied a goal and a game-high nine draw controls. Angelina Vitale (2-2) made four saves in goal to earn the win for the Blue and Gold.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
First Quarter
  • Rollins got the first two goals of the contest, with Abere and Tess Hovivian scoring in the first 3:37 of the game.
  • Anderson answered with three straight goals, but DeGroat found the back of the net twice in a span of less than a minute to put the Tars back in front, 4-3.
  • The Trojans got a late goal to knot things up at 4-4 after one quarter of play.
Second Quarter
  • The Tars took control of the game in the second quarter, outscoring AU 4-0 with two goals from Bell along with markers from McGarry and Weber, giving the home side an 8-4 edge at the break.
Third Quarter
  • Rollins continued to ride the wave of momentum into the second half, getting a goal from Trautwein and back-to-back tallies from Bell to push the lead to 11-4 with 7:52 left in the period.
  • Anderson put home a pair of goals before the end of the quarter, with Weber also scoring in between those goals, putting the Rollins lead at 12-6 heading to the final period.
Fourth Quarter
  • Allen opened the scoring in the fourth, but the visitors then scored three straight goals to trim the deficit to 13-9.
  • McGarry scored to stem the tide, and Delaney Hudson and Allen each put home goals in the closing minutes to give the Blue and Gold a 16-9 victory.

Rollins will continue this eight-game homestand on Thursday, March 6, when Lenoir-Rhyne comes to town for a 7:30 p.m. matchup.
