No. 7 Rollins Flies Past No. 20 Westminster

The Tars are back in action on March 1st when they host Flagler

WINTER PARK, Fla. (February 21, 2025) – The seventh-ranked Rollins men's lacrosse team took care of business in its home opener on Friday, defeating No. 20 Westminster, 19-12. The Tars are now 3-1 on the season, while the Griffins drop to 0-1.
 
Jack Johnstone led the Tars with four points on three goals and an assist, while Sean Caracciolo and Nate Paulo each tallied two goals and an assist. Sam Mattson, Chad Bulera, Max Armitage, and Logan Myers all chipped in with two goals apiece. Maxwell Beuck (3-1) made 11 saves to backstop the win in goal.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
First Quarter
  • After Westminster opened the scoring, Bulera, Brady Greco, and Mattson scored goals in the span of 2:14 to put the Tars in front, 3-1.
  • The Griffins got the next goal, but Rollins again answered with three straight goals, pushing the lead to 6-2 after one quarter.
Second Quarter
  • Mattson opened the scoring in the second period, but Westminster answered with back-to-back goals to cut the deficit to 7-4.
  • Paulo and Johnstone scored goals sandwiched around a Griffin goal, giving the Blue and Gold a 9-5 halftime lead.
Third Quarter
  • Myers pushed the lead to 10-5 less than a minute into the third, and before long the Tars had extended the margin to 13-6.
  • Aaron Williams scored to make it 14-7 and the home team carried a comfortable 14-8 lead to the final quarter.
Fourth Quarter
  • Armitage put home his two goals of the night less than a minute apart in the early stages of the fourth, increasing the lead to 16-8.
  • After a Griffin tally, Rollins rattled off three consecutive markers to put the game away at 19-9 with 3:48 left.
  • Westminster collected a trio of late goals to account for the 19-12 final score.

Rollins will be back in action next Saturday, March 1st, as they host Flagler for a 7 p.m. contest.
