ORLANDO, Fla. (February 19, 2025) - Men's tennis found themselves back in the win column following their 5-2 win over the visiting Bates Bobcats on Wednesday. With the win, the Tars improve to 4-2 on the season.
Following four matches in the last week, head coach
Jay Friedman lined up a different line up for this one. The result was positive, as Rollins dominated on almost every court. It began with doubles, where the Tars swept all three matches.
Richard Stoiberer/
Pete Tran were 6-3 winners on number one,
Mo Anterist/
Nico de Giacomo matched that effort with a 6-3 of their own, and
Pietro Cappellaro/
Fabian Gusic took home a 6-4 victory on three.
Tran was the first to finish in singles, cruising to a 6-3, 6-0 win on court two. He was soon joined by Anterist who handled his opponent to the tune of 7-5, 6-1. Gusic then clinched the match with a tough win on the feature court, dispatching Phillippe Koysagin 7-6 (2), 6-3.
Bates kept fighting, and avoided the sweep with wins on courts five and six. Stoiberer then ended the day on a high note with his court four win, posting a final of 3-6, 6-3, 6-1.
"It was a tough turnaround being inside on Sunday, flying home Monday, and then coming out to play a really top notch and hungry team like Bates," remarked Friedman. "Their discipline is always impeccable, and we certainly were glad to get away with a victory today. Best of luck to them the rest of the year. Now it's time to focus on the Sunshine State battles we have upcoming!"
One of those battles is this weekend. The Tars will travel to Boca Raton to square off against the Lynn Fighting Knights on Sunday, February 23. First serve is scheduled for 1:00 pm
