Tars Open SSC Play with Road Win

Rollins defeated Lynn 4-3 on Sunday afternoon

BOCA RATON, Fla. (February 23, 2025) - Men's tennis earned a hard-fought road win to open conference play on Sunday, defeating the Lynn Fighting Knights 4-3. The win moves the Tars to 5-2 overall this spring, and 1-0 in SSC play. Lynn drops to 4-3, 1-2 SSC.

Rollins started the day with a sweep of doubles. On court three, Nico de Giacomo/Fabian Gusic faced little resistance from Alimoussa/Azar, winning by a 6-1 margin. The point was then clinched on court two where Mo Anterist/Pete Tran bested Cortimiglia/Ostheimer 6-2. Even with the point in hand, the teams wanted to battle all the way through, and fans were treated to an epic match on court one. It took plenty of extra effort, but in the end, Luke Quaynor/Richard Stoiberer outlasted Demichelis/Morel 7-6 (5).

The Tars took a substantial lead by winning the first two singles matchups as well. The first to end was on court two where Gusic handled Morel 6-2, 6-1. Anterist joined his teammate in the win column on number four with a 6-3, 6-0 effort against Ostheimer.

The Fighting Knights secured their first point of the day on the featured court as Demichelis downed Quaynor in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2. However, Tran picked up the team and secured victory with his 6-4, 6-2 effort on court five versus Azar.

The final two singles matches were played out on six and three, with Lynn taking both to make the final of 4-3.

"Great to get a win over Lynn at their place," remarked an energized head coach Jay Friedman. "When you get into conference play, you never quite know what to expect, especially now that everyone has had their Covid year players move on. I really liked how the guys brought their energy today, and I look forward to a tough battle on Thursday with the team from Embry Riddle."

That matchup with the #11 Eagles will be played at the USTA National Campus in Orlando on Thursday, February 27. First serve is scheduled for 3:00 pm.
