Knights Outshoot Tars in Boca Raton

Lynn defeated Rollins 94-84 on Saturday evening

BOCA RATON, Fla. (February 15, 2025) - Men's basketball was challenged with 81 shots from the Lynn Fighting Knights, who made enough to earn a 94-84 win over Rollins on Saturday. The Tars now stand at 15-10 on the season and 8-8 in SSC play. The Knights improve to 16-7, 11-6 SSC. 

Both teams came out firing in the first, with three ties and three lead changes before the first media timeout. After going up 13-9 on a Sergey Grishaev jumper, Lynn responded with four unanswered three-pointers to gain a 21-13 lead. 

The Tars fought back to pull within one, but could gain the lead back. A fifty-one second flurry of offense from 8:36-7:45 saw five straight shots made by both teams, including two threes from Lynn to put them up 32-24. 

In the final minutes of the first, Lynn withstood each make from Rollins, and took a 53-41 lead into the break. 

Rollins shot 50% from the floor in the first half, but Lynn outscored them by putting up eleven more shots from the field. 

Points were at a premium to begin the second half, and soon the Knights found themselves up by 22 points. The Tars, and Beau Frericks in particular, were not going to go down without a fight though. The grad student scored ten points in the second half give Rollins a fighting chance. 

With just over five minutes to go, Rollins managed a 9-0 run, including four from John Latimer III and three from Grishaev, to make it 81-76. The two teams traded makes for the next few minutes, with a Frericks layup pulling the Tars within four with a minute to go. Lynn was cash from the free throw line in the final seconds, going 6-6 from the stripe to hang on for a 94-84 win. 

Frericks posted a double-double with 18 points and ten rebounds. He also added five assists. Latimer matched his 18 points to tie for the team lead. Leo Beath led all scorers with 29 points for the Knights. Lynn ended the game going 33-81 (41%) from the field, including 52 attempts from three-point range. Rollins shot 50% on 66 shots, but struggled from deep, hitting 5-21 threes. 

Next up for Rollins is a home game against Eckerd on Wednesday, February 19. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 pm following the women's game at Warden Arena.
