Rollins Returns to Win Column with 88-75 Victory Over Eckerd

The Tars face Embry-Riddle on the road on Saturday

WINTER PARK, Fla. (February 19, 2025) – The Rollins men's basketball team snapped a two-game skid with an 88-75 win over visiting Eckerd on Wednesday night. With the win, the Tars improve to 16-10 overall, 9-8 in SSC play, while the Tritons drop to 11-15, 6-12 in conference games.

John Latimer III led the way with 22 points and five rebounds, while Beau Frericks and Emilis Butkus each added 18 points. Sergey Grishaev led all players with 14 rebounds to go along with eight points and a team-leading four assists.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
First Half
  • After Eckerd hit a three to open the scoring, Grishaev answered with a three followed by layups from Latimer III and Butkus, putting Rollins in front, 7-3.
  • The Tritons battled back to tie things up at 12 and again at 23, but both times the Tars were able to retake the lead.
  • A Latimer III triple gave the Blue and Gold its largest lead of the half at 34-29 with 4:58 to go, and the Tars would hold a 41-35 edge at the break.
Second Half
  • Eckerd kept things close in the early stages of the second half, eventually drawing even at 57 with 11:55 on the clock.
  • The two teams would find themselves deadlocked two more times, at 62 and 64, but the Tars never allowed Eckerd to pull in front.
  • From the 64-64 tie with 8:18 left, Rollins scored six straight points to go up 70-64, and just a couple minutes later an Ian Hart layup lifted the lead to 12 points at 78-66 with 4:44 to play.
  • The Tritons trimmed the deficit to 78-71, but that was as close as they would get, as Rollins scored the next seven points to build an 85-71 lead with less than a minute left and cruised to an 88-75 win from there.
