WINTER PARK, Fla. (October 8, 2025) – Rollins dropped another close Sunshine State Conference matchup on Wednesday night, falling 1-0 to Florida Southern. The Tars move to 4-4-1 overall and 0-3-1 in SSC play, while the Mocs improve to 6-1-2, 3-1-1 in SSC.
Florida Southern controlled possession early, firing off three shots in the opening minutes and forcing Rollins goalkeeper
Lauren Mehos to make two early saves. The Tars responded with offensive pressure of their own, highlighted by an on-target strike from
Alice Tesser.
Alayna Townsend and
Skylar Kruszka each created chances soon after, but the Moccasin defense held firm. Late in the first half,
Emma McMurry produced one of Rollins' best looks of the night, narrowly missing wide as the teams entered halftime scoreless.
The second half opened with a back-and-forth battle for control, Tesser again testing the FSC defense with the first shot after the break. Florida Southern broke through in the 70th minute when Rilee Hawegawa capitalized on a clean setup off a passing sequence to put the visitors ahead. Rollins pressed forward in the closing minutes, but their late efforts were turned aside as the Mocs held on for the win.
Mehos finished the night with three saves, while Kruszka and Tesser led the Tars' attack with multiple attempts.
Rollins will look to bounce back on Saturday, October 11, hosting Nova Southeastern at 7 p.m. at Cahall-Sandspur Field in Winter Park.
