Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Tars Sneak Past Lions in Defensive Battle

Rollins defeated Saint Leo 1-0 on Wednesday

SAINT LEO, Fla. (October 29, 2025) - It wasn't pretty, but men's soccer did just enough to earn a 1-0 win on the road at Saint Leo on Wednesday night. The win improves the Tars to 8-3-4 (5-2-2 SSC) while the Lions fall to 3-7-4 (2-4-3 SSC).

If tough defense, all-out hustle, and physical play is your style, this was the game for you. In between the brutal scrum on the pitch, the two teams combined for exactly one shot on goal in the first half, coming from the foot of Justin Nelson in the 10th minute.

The second shot of the game didn't come until Yousef Shakweer let one rip in the 67th minute, but it was saved by James Knudsen. Conversely, the Lions put their first shot (and second as well) in the 70th minute, but Kilian Vallant was up to the task.

The only goal in the game came in the 86th minute. The Tars lifted a long cross into the box, but Knudsen was able to snag it with two hands. However, as he came down from his jump, the ball hit the shoulder of a teammate and popped loose. Tolu Junaid was Johnny-on-the-spot, and immediately smashed the ball into the wide-open net to put Rollins on top.

Saint Leo actually outshot the Tars 11-9, but were doubled up on shots on goal, 4-2. The chippy affair saw 12 fouls called on each side. This was also the first game of the year for Rollins that did not feature a yellow card.

There is one game left on the schedule for Rollins, and it is a big one. The Tars will travel to Palm Beach Atlantic on Saturday, November 1st for a clash with the #3 Sailfish. Rollins is currently 3rd in the SSC standings, and win could potentially move them up to #2.
