Rollins Knocks Off Millersville in Home Opener

The Tars improved to 7-2 on the season with the win

WINTER PARK, Fla. (Sept. 20, 2024) – The Rollins volleyball team opened the 2024 home slate with a 3-1 win over Millersville on Friday night, 27-25, 21-25, 25-13, 25-21, to kick off the Rollins College Invitational.
 
Lana Gerard led all players with 17 kills and added 12 digs for a double-double, while Jadyn Troutman contributed 11 kills and a match-high seven blocks (three solo). Natalie Horsley racked up a match-leading 44 assists and Jenna Garza led all players with 18 digs.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Set One
  • Millersville jumped out to a 10-3 lead early, but the Tars chipped away, eventually drawing even at 18.
  • After the Marauders scored three straight, Rollins answered with a 5-1 run to go up 23-22.
  • A Gerard kill gave the Tars set point at 24-23, but Millersville scored two straight points to earn a set point of its own at 25-24.
  • Makayla Moran put down a kill to tie it at 25 and Adriana Lopez recorded back-to-back service aces to close out the set at 27-25.
Set Two
  • Set two saw Millersville again take an early lead, going up 10-5.
  • The Tars again rallied, coming all the way back to tie it at 20.
  • This time the Marauders landed the counterpunch, ending the frame on a 5-1 burst to win it, 25-21.
Set Three
  • The Blue and Gold used a 7-0 run to jump out to an early 8-2 edge in the third set.
  • The Tars continued to push, leading by as many as 14 (24-10) en route to a 25-13 victory.
Set Four
  • Rollins started out strong in the fourth, scoring nine straight points to take a 9-1 lead.
  • The Marauders came back to get within a point at 19-18, but a 3-0 spurt put the Tars up 22-18, and the two sides traded sideouts from there, giving Rollins a 25-21 win to secure the 3-1 match victory.
 
 
UP NEXT:
The Tars will return to the court tomorrow as they conclude the Rollins College Invitational with two more matches, beginning with a 2 p.m. contest against Southern Connecticut State, followed by a 7 p.m. match against Trevecca Nazarene.
