Fourth-Ranked Mocs Too Much for Tars

Rollins got off to a slow start and Saturday and couldn't catch up, falling by a score of 20-11

WINTER PARK, Fla. (April 6, 2024) – The 17th-ranked Rollins women's lacrosse team fell to fourth-ranked Florida Southern on Saturday, 20-11, at Barker Family Stadium. The Tars are now 11-4 overall, 3-3 in conference play, while the Mocs improve to 11-3, 4-0 in SSC games.
 
Caroline Gastonguay and Aleksa Allen led the Tars with three goals apiece, while Jorie Alf chipped in with a pair of goals and an assist. Madison McGarry had a team-high three draw controls and added a goal. Angelina Vitale (3-1) took the loss, making two saves on 13 shots in 36:47 of action.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
First Quarter
  • Florida Southern tallied the first six goals of the contest before Allen put home back-to-back markers to get the Tars on the board.
  • Caroline Gastonguay scored with 38 seconds left in the first to cut the deficit to 6-3.
Second Quarter
  • Caroline Gastonguay found the back of the net just 39 seconds into the second quarter to make it a 6-4 game, but FSC answered back with seven straight goals to go up 13-4.
  • Another goal from Caroline Gastonguay stopped the run, but the Mocs tallied two more late in the half to hold a 15-5 lead at the break.
Third Quarter
  • McGarry and Molly Mendes got the first two goals of the third to make it a 15-7 game.
  • Allen and Alf also netted goals in the quarter, though FSC tallied four goals as well, allowing the visitors to maintain a 10-goal advantage (19-9) heading to the fourth.
Fourth Quarter
  • Lauren Noonan and Alf each scored in the final period, with Florida Southern adding one goal as well, closing out the game with a 20-11 final score.
 
UP NEXT:
The Tars will return to action next Saturday, April 13, when they host No. 7 Tampa in the regular season finale at 12 p.m.
