WINTER PARK, Fla. (April 13, 2024) – The 17th-ranked Rollins women's lacrosse team fell to fifth-ranked Tampa on Saturday, 17-11, at Barker Family Stadium on Senior Day. The Tars are now 11-5 overall, 3-4 in conference play, while the Spartans improve to 12-3, 5-1 in SSC games.
Madison McGarry led the Tars with three goals and an assist while
Caroline Gastonguay added two goals, an assist, and two caused turnovers.
Anya Studebaker (8-4) took the loss in goal, making five saves on 21 shots in 53:13 of action.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
First Quarter
- Tampa scored the first two goals before McGarry got the Tars on the board at the 12:35 mark of the first.
- After two more Spartan goals, Sydney Nickel and Lauren Noonan scored to make it a 4-3 game.
- Tampa put home a late goal with 16 seconds left to go up 5-3 just before the end of the period.
Second Quarter
- UT scored just 19 seconds into the second before Caroline Gastonguay tallied her first of the game to make it 6-4.
- The Spartans scored seven more times in the quarter, with McGarry and Charlotte Gastonguay also finding the back of the net for the Tars, giving Tampa a 13-6 lead at the half.
Third Quarter
- McGarry and Caroline Gastonguay both put home a goal in the third while the Tars held the visitors to just one goal, cutting the deficit to 14-8 at the end of the third quarter.
Fourth Quarter
- Jorie Alf scored less than a minute into the fourth, but Tampa answered back with a pair of goals to increase its lead to 16-9 with 8:06 to go.
- Gabby Yerardi tallied two late goals for the Blue and Gold as the Spartans went on to claim a 17-11 win.

With the regular season wrapped up, the Tars will wait to find out what seed they will be in the Sunshine State Conference Tournament, as well as who their first opponent will be in the first round on Saturday, April 20.
