No. 6 Tars Pick Up 10-6 Road Win at No. 18 Florida Southern

Rollins took a 5-0 lead early and never trailed in the game

LAKELAND, Florida (April 6, 2024) – The No. 6 Rollins men's lacrosse team jumped out to a 5-0 lead en route to a 10-6 victory at No. 18 Florida Southern on Saturday night. The Tars are now 9-2 overall, 3-1 in conference play, while the Mocs drop to 8-5, 2-3 in SSC games.
 
Jack Johnstone led all players with three goals while Logan Myers tallied two goals and an assist. Evan Tessler had a team-high seven ground balls and three caused turnovers and Shahé Katchadurian (9-2) made 10 saves on 16 shots, adding two assists and two ground balls.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
First Quarter
  • Johnstone opened the scoring at the 12:27 mark, with Myers following suit a few minutes later.
  • Benjamin Kopen scored a man-down goal on an assist from Katchadurian to make it 3-0, while Chad Bulera and Craig Wexelblatt tallied goals to give Rollins a 5-0 edge early.
Second Quarter
  • Florida Southern scored a pair of goals early in the second before Johnstone answered with his second of the night, giving the Tars a 6-2 lead at the half.
Third Quarter
  • Myers scored the only Rollins goal of the third, sandwiched between two FSC markers, reducing the advantage to 7-4 heading to the final period.
Fourth Quarter
  • After Florida Southern scored to get within two (7-5), Grant Hansen and Sam Mattson found the back of the net to push the lead back to four at 9-5 with 6:49 to play.
  • FSC got one more goal before Johnstone sealed the game with this third goal of the evening, giving the Tars a 10-6 victory.
