No. 6 Rollins Soars Past Eagles

The Tars jumped out to a 6-0 lead and pulled away late for the 14-9 win

WINTER PARK, Florida (April 10, 2024) – The No. 6 Rollins men's lacrosse team registered its third straight win on Wednesday night, defeating visiting Embry-Riddle, 14-9. The Tars are now 10-2 overall, 14-1 in conference play, while the Eagles drop to 6-6, 2-3 in SSC games.
 
Mikey Berkman led the Tars with three goals and three assists, while Grant Hansen tallied three goals and one assist. Logan Myers tallied two goals and an assist and Jack Johnstone chipped in with two goals and three ground balls. Thomas Garvin was 16-for-25 in faceoffs with a game-high 13 ground balls and Shahé Katchadurian (10-2) made 11 saves on 20 shots to earn the win in goal.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
First Quarter
  • Berkman scored twice in the first two minutes as the Tars got off to a fast start.
  • Chad Bulera, Hansen, and Johnstone all netted goals late in the first to give Rollins a 5-0 lead after one quarter.
Second Quarter
  • Justin White got the first goal of the second before Embry-Riddle got on the board with a pair of goals to make it 6-2.
  • Hansen put home his second of the game a couple minutes before halftime to extend the lead to 7-2 at the break.
Third Quarter
  • The Eagles scored four in a row to open the third quarter, trimming the deficit to 7-6.
  • Myers found the back of the net to keep the Tars in front at the 7:31 mark.
  • After an ERAU goal, Hansen scored to make it 9-7.
  • Embry-Riddle once again climbed to within one, but Sean Caracciolo and Max Armitage helped Rollins keep its lead, extending the margin to 11-8 at the end of the third.
Fourth Quarter
  • Myers, Berkman, and Johnstone all scored in the fourth to put the game out of reach, with the Eagles finding one final goal to account for the 14-9 final score.
 
UP NEXT:
The Tars are back at home on Sunday, April 13, as they host Palm Beach Atlantic at 5 p.m. Saturday's game will be the final home game of the regular season, with the 2024 senior class being honored after the contest.
