OAK RIDGE, Tenn. (April 22, 2024) – The Rollins men's rowing team concluded its 2024 SIRA campaign moving up the board on in the Varsity 8. This was one of the many goals the Rollins men had set for themselves this season. Rollins (
Theodore Preaus,
William Harris,
Cooper Richart,
Fredrik Bang-Andreasen,
John Patrick McClear,
James Cone,
Costa Demetriades,
Brennan Duntley,
Reese Duntley) put together a great race in the second level final finishing fourth in this event and placing 10th out of the 22-boat field, which was two spots better than last year. Rollins posted a 6:09 beating UNC by .9 seconds and 1.8 seconds ahead of Vanderbilt. Rollins was 3.1 seconds off of Mercyhurst and Delaware who were two one hundredths of a second apart.
"These guys fought hard to break into the grand finals," said Head Coach
Shawn Pistor. "We are just not quite there yet but the team will continue to fight our way up." The Tars and 3 other Florida schools were in the top 10 in the Varsity 8 race which bodes well for Florida men's rowing teams.
Rollins was also entered in the MV4 (
Belle Wallin,
Guillermo Acha,
Samuel McCullen, Weston Hollman,
Camilo Lopez-Morton) which ended up finishing 12th out of the 21-boat field. These guys placed sixth in the second level final and put everything out there fighting for fourth but just could not hang on.
The men's pair (
Andrew Vieth,
Nikolai Zemliansky) finished 7th which gave a lot of experience to the boat which consisted of two of our freshmen rowers.
