Tars Stay Perfect with 10-5 Win Over Golden Eagles

Rollins improves to 4-0 on the year with the victory

WINTER PARK, Fla. (February 27, 2024) – The No. 2 Rollins men's lacrosse team won a defensive battle against visiting Concordia University Irvine on Tuesday night, picking up a 10-5 win. The Tars are now 4-0 on the season, while the Golden Eagles fall to 1-3.
 
Grant Hansen had a game-high four points on a goal and three assists to go along with two ground balls and a game-leading three caused turnovers. Mikey Berkman tallied a goal and two assists, while Jack Johnstone had two goals. Shahé Katchadurian (4-0) got the win, making nine saves on 14 shots in a full 60 minutes in goal.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
First Quarter
  • After a scoreless opening eight minutes, CUI got on the board first with a pair of goals.
  • Logan Myers got the first goal of the game for the Tars with just 48 seconds to go in the opening quarter.
  • The Golden Eagles scored again in the final 10 seconds to give the visitors a 3-1 lead after one quarter.
Second Quarter
  • Rollins clamped down defensively for the remainder of the contest, holding Concordia off the board entirely in the second quarter.
  • Johnstone, William Metz, and Sam Mattson all netted markers in the period to push the Blue and Gold in front, 4-3, at the half.
Third Quarter
  • The third quarter saw Johnstone and Sean Caracciolo score in the first four minutes to make it a 6-3 game before CUI got a man-up goal to cut it to 6-4.
  • Justin White scored the only other goal of the quarter as the Tars held a 7-4 edge going to the fourth.
Fourth Quarter
  • Will Brandt, Hansen, and Berkman scored the first three goals of the fourth to give Rollins a comfortable 10-4 lead before the Golden Eagles put one home in the final 23 seconds to account for the 10-5 final.
 
UP NEXT:
The Tars will kick off an important four-game road swing on Saturday, March 2 at Flagler. That game is set for a 7 p.m. start in St. Augustine.
