BOCA RATON, Fla. (February 21, 2024) - Women's basketball displayed a tenacious effort on the defensive end to cruise to a 60-48 win at Lynn on Wednesday. The Tars now stand at 12-12 on the year with a 9-9 record in the SSC. Lynn drops to 13-12, 8-9 SSC.
Lynn jumped out to an early 7-0 lead in the first before a
Lucy Leen layup put the Tars on the board. From there, Rollins took control of the game, going on a 14-8 run to close the half. Rollins made seven field goals in the quarter, each by a different member of the team.
The second quarter was all Rollins as their defense played phenomenally. Lynn did not add to their score until three minutes into the quarter when they hit a couple of free throws. The Knights then went scoreless for four minutes until they hit their first field goal of the quarter at the 3:22 mark. Meanwhile
Ajalon Gillard was good for five points in the period, and helped Rollins to a 34-22 halftime lead.
Things only got harder for Lynn in the third quarter. With Rollins flying all over the court and forcing tough shots, the Knights only converted one field goal on twelve attempts, giving them two points in the quarter. Leen led the offensive attack with six points in the third as Rollins opened up the game to 52-24.
To give credit where it's due, Lynn did not give up, and outscored the Tars in the fourth.
Grace Alfieri was good for five points, as Rollins did enough to maintain their comfortable position, heading home with a 60-48 conference road win.
All nine players who saw the court for Rollins scored in the game. Leen was the top scorer with 12 points on 5-5 shooting. Gillard added ten points, three rebounds, and three assists.
With the win, Rollins jumps ahead of Lynn in the conference standings, now sitting 5th. They are a half game back of Eckerd, the #4 seed, and own the tie-breaker against the Tritons. Seeds 1-4 host games in the first round of the SSC tournament.
Rollins is off on Saturday, and will return to action on Wednesday, February 28 at Florida Southern.
