WINTER PARK, Fla. (November 7, 2024) - Men's soccer ended their regular season in style, scoring a huge 3-2 win over Nova Southeastern on Thursday. The win moves Rollins to 8-5-1 on the year, 6-3-1 in the SSC, and vaulted them from the fifth-seed to the second-seed for the upcoming SSC tournament that starts Monday.
Rollins found themselves in an early hole less than five minutes into the game when Kevin Rubaszewski broke away from the Tar defense and beat
Jabari Gray with a swift strike to the far side of the net.
It took about twenty minutes, but Rollins was able to respond. After coming away with a ball at midfield,
Pedro Lameiras led
Mikkel Fodstad beautifully, setting him up for a shot on goal. The save was made, but the ball bounced directly to
Isaac Hunter who blasted his shot in to tie the game.
With less than two minutes remaining in the first half,
Rory Doyle found himself with space near the center line. He spied a streaking
Kaden Foreman, and delivered a perfect airborne pass. Foreman showed some dazzling footwork and light touch as he worked around the defender, and sent the ball to
Mikkel Fodstad who calmly snuck his shot past the Shark keeper to put Rollins ahead 2-1.
The second half saw the Tars strike early. After drawing a foul just outside the 18-yard box, Lameiras lined up a free kick and placed it perfectly around the defensive wall and into the top bin for a 3-1 advantage.
Nova Southeastern became the aggressors for the remainder of the game, and managed to add a second goal to Rubaszewski's ledger when he scored from a tough angle on the right side of the field to pull within one.
Thankfully, the Rollins defense stood strong for the remainder of the game, and they came away with their fourth consecutive win.
Lameiras and Fodstad were each credited with a goal and an assist to lead the offense. Rollins outshot Nova Southeastern 19-7, including an 8-3 advantage in shots on goal. They also had 11 corners to the Sharks' four.
As it stands, Rollins is the #2 seed in the conference. However, they must wait on the result of the Florida Tech vs. Barry game on Friday to determine the final seeding. A win or tie for Tech would put them in the #2 slot, and bump Rollins to #3. A Barry win solidifies the Tars' position as the two.
Regardless of seed, Rollins next game will be on Monday in Winter Park. Stay tuned to RollinsSports.com for the latest updates on who and when they will play.
