WINTER PARK, Fla. (November 6, 2024) – The Rollins volleyball team fell in three sets to visiting Eckerd on Wednesday night, 25-19, 25-23, 25-22. The Tars are now 12-13 on the year, 3-11 in SSC play, while the Tritons go to 12-8, 5-7 in conference matches.
Lana Gerard and
Emma Gongora each tallied a team-high 10 kills, with Gerard also picking up a team-leading 16 digs.
Adriana Lopez (14 digs) and
Cameron Grange (11 digs) also reached double-figures in kills, while
Natalie Horsley distributed a match-best 29 assists.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Set One
- Eckerd took an early 6-3 lead, and a 4-0 spurt midway through the frame extended the margin to 15-9.
- The Tars got back to within two points at 20-18, but the Tritons closed out the frame winning five of the last six rallies to win it, 25-19.
Set Two
- Set two saw the visitors use a 9-1 burst to jump out to a 12-6 lead.
- The Tritons were up 22-16 when Rollins roared back to tie it, scoring six straight points, including three kills and a block from Gongora.
- EC was able to stop the momentum at 22-22 and win three of the next four points to clinch the set, 25-23.
Set Three
- In the third frame, the Tritons used a 6-0 run to go up 19-13.
- The Blue and Gold battled back to close the gap to two points, but that was as close as it would get, with Eckerd holding on for a 25-22 win to complete the 3-0 sweep.
UP NEXT:
The Tars will battle the Tritons once again on Friday at 8 p.m. in St. Petersburg, with the match set be played at St. Pete Catholic High School.
