Rollins Downed by Eckerd

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (November 8, 2024) – The Rollins volleyball team fell to Eckerd on Friday night, 3-1 (16-25, 25-10, 25-21, 25-16). The Tars fell to 12-14 with the loss, 3-12 in SSC play, while the Tritons improved to 13-8, 6-7 in conference action.
 
Jadyn Troutman led the Tars with 11 kills and hit .421, while Lana Gerard and Emma Gongora each tallied 10 kills. Gerard added 13 digs to finish with a double-double, while Adriana Lopez had a team-leading 14 digs, and Natalie Horsley accumulated a team-high 31 assists.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Set One
  • Rollins got off to a hot start, jumping out to a 12-1 lead in the opening minutes.
  • Eckerd worked to close the gap to 13-7, but the Tars maintained a comfortable distance, winning the frame by a score of 25-16.
Set Two
  • Set two saw the Tritons get the better start, jumping out to an 11-4 lead early on.
  • After the Blue and Gold got to within three at 13-10, Eckerd won 12 straight points to win the set, 25-10.
Set Three
  • The third frame was a much tighter affair, with Rollins leading 15-12 before a 6-0 burst by Eckerd put the home team ahead, 18-15.
  • The Tars kept it close, but the Tritons were able to hold on for a 25-21 win to take a 2-1 lead in the match.
Set Four
  • In the fourth set, Rollins held a slim 8-6 lead before Eckerd won four straight points to go up 10-8, which would prove to be the final lead change of the match.
  • The Tritons prevented the Tars from winning consecutive points for the rest of the set, allowing Eckerd to slowly pull away, eventually winning it 25-16 to take the match, 3-1.
