Freshman
Amanda Caines put a final bow on her first collegiate soccer season, selected by South Region sports information directors as a second-team defender as announced by D2CCA on Tuesday.
Caines played like a seasoned veteran for the Tars all season long, anchoring a back line that allowed only 1.13 goals per game. She came off the bench in the first game of the year against Tiffin, and proceeded to start every match thereafter. She logged 1,343 minutes on the year, the third-most on the team. Her time on the field was strictly business, focused on stopping the opposing attack; she did not record an offensive stat of any kind during the year.
"Amanda is a very talented central defender who played with great toughness, speed, and composure all season," said head coach
Alicia Schuck. "We believed in her, and her teammates who surrounded her all season, and it's wonderful for her to receive these impressive accolades to start her career."
The South Region consists of schools from the Sunshine State Conference, the Gulf South Conference, and the Southern Intercollegiate Conference. Caines was one of ten SSC players recognized, and the only freshman.
Mya Swinton of West Florida was named Player of the Year.
