Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Townsend Strikes Twice in Tars Triumph

Rollins defeated Georgia Southwestern 2-0 on Saturday night

WINTER PARK, Fla. (September 6, 2025) - Women's soccer powered through a weather delay of more than 75 minutes to lock in and take a commanding 2-0 win at home against the Georgia Southwestern Canes on Saturday. Freshman Alayna Townsend was responsible for both goals in the game.

The first twenty minutes of action saw the ball and players from both teams slipping and sliding all over the pitch as a passing storm was finally curtailing out of town. The first true chance for either team came on a throw in deep from the Canes' end of the field. The initial throw was headed away by a Georgia Southwestern defender, but landed right in front of Gabby Boyd. She immediately put a shot on target, but the keeper could not grab the ball cleanly. It bounced out of her hands and landed in front of Townsend, who powered it through for her first career goal.

Only two other shots were registered in the first half as the Tars took the lead into the break.

Townsend struck again just two minutes into the second half. As the Canes took control of the ball in their own territory, a lazy pass back to the keeper hung around just a touch too long. Sensing the opportunity, Townsend raced towards the ball, beat the keeper to it, and was able to smash it into the back of the net for her second brace of the game.

The ensuing 43 minutes saw a defensive clinic from the Tars as they denied the Canes nearly every opportunity. At one point, Georgia Southwestern thought they had scored a goal following a scrum in the Tars' box, but an offside call from the sideline referee negated the attempt.

Rollins ended the game with twelve shots, but only six were on target.

The Tars will hit the road for their next match as they head to Ohio to take on the Tiffin Dragons on Thursday, September 11. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:00 pm.
