WINTER PARK, Fla. (Nov. 2, 2024) – The Rollins volleyball team was swept by visiting eighth-ranked Tampa on Saturday, 25-15, 25-20, 25-20. The Tars are now 12-12 overall and 3-10 in conference play, while the Spartans go to 16-2, 8-2 in league matches.
Lana Gerard led the Tars with nine kills while
Jenna Garza picked up a team-high six digs and
Natalie Horsley dished out a team-leading 27 assists.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Set One
- An 11-3 run gave Tampa a commanding 16-8 lead in the first set, and the visitors would go on to take it by a score of 25-15.
Set Two
- Set two saw the Tars go on a 6-0 spurt to build a 13-8 advantage, but the Spartans quickly bounced back with eight straight points to go up 16-13.
- Rollins rallied to regain the lead briefly at 18-17, but UT closed out the frame on an 8-2 burst to win it, 25-20.
Set Three
- In the third frame, Tampa scored six of the first eight points before Rollins rattled off five in a row to take a 7-6 lead.
- A 5-1 run put the visitors back in front, 13-10, and a 4-0 spurt a few minutes later increased the margin to 19-13.
- The Tars got back to within two points at 22-20, but the Spartans won the last three rallies to clinch the set, 25-20, giving them a 3-0 victory.

The Tars will return to the court on Wednesday, November 6 to host Eckerd at 7 p.m. to wrap up this five-match home stand.
