Rollins Bested by Florida Southern

The Tars dropped to 9-7 on the season with the defeat

LAKELAND, Fla. (Oct. 5, 2024) – The Rollins volleyball team lost at Florida Southern on Saturday in three sets, 25-13, 25-20, 26-24. The Tars are now 9-7 overall, 0-5 in conference, while the Mocs go to 8-2, 2-0 in SSC play.
 
Lana Gerard led the Tars with 11 kills while Jadyn Troutman added seven kills and Makayla Moran chipped in with six kills and five blocks (one solo). Adriana Lopez had a team-high 15 digs and Jenna Garza (17 assists) and Molly Morris (10 assists) ran the 6-2 offense.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Set One
  • The Mocs scored the first five points of the match and maintained a comfortable lead throughout the opening set, eventually winning it, 25-13.
Set Two
  • Set two saw the two sides stay close until a 5-0 burst gave FSC a 16-11 edge.
  • The Tars had a 4-1 run of their own late in the frame, but it wasn't enough as Florida Southern took the set, 25-20.
Set Three
  • In the third frame, the Blue and Gold took four of the first five points and used a 5-0 spurt to push its lead to 9-3.
  • Florida Southern quickly answered back with a 5-0 run to trim the deficit to a single point (9-8), but Rollins countered, and a 4-0 rally put the Tars back in front, 15-11.
  • The Tars led 21-16, but FSC closed out the match with a 10-3 run to win the set, 26-24, completing the 3-0 sweep.
 
UP NEXT:
The Tars will be back at home next week to host Florida Tech on Tuesday, October 8 at 7 p.m.
