Rollins Sweeps Saint Leo

The Tars got their first SSC win of the year on Wednesday

WINTER PARK, Fla. (Oct. 16, 2024) – The Rollins volleyball team put on a dominating performance in its first match in 11 days on Wednesday night, sweeping visiting Saint Leo 25-21, 25-20, 25-12. The match, which was rescheduled from October 11 due to Hurricane Milton, took just over an hour to complete.
 
Rollins hit .237 for the match while holding the Lions to a -.024 attack percentage, forcing 26 errors to just 24 kills for the visitors. Makayla Moran led all players with 12 kills and hit .429 while registering seven blocks (one solo), and Lana Gerard chipped in with seven kills. Cameron Grange picked up a match-high 11 digs to go along with five kills and Natalie Horsley tallied a match-leading 32 assists to go along with seven blocks.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Set One
  • A 6-1 run gave the Tars a 10-5 lead early on, though Saint Leo battled back to tie it at 15.
  • The visitors nosed in front late, 21-20, before the Blue and Gold rattled off five straight points, including three consecutive kills from Moran, to clinch the set, 25-21.
Set Two
  • Set two saw the Tars run out to a comfortable 10-3 lead before Saint Leo went on a 9-1 run to take the lead, 14-13.
  • A 5-0 burst keyed by three straight kills from Gerard put Rollins back in front, 21-16.
  • The Lions scored the next three points to make it a two-point deficit, but the Blue and Gold responded by taking four of the final five points of the frame to win it, 25-20.
Set Three
  • In the third frame, the Tars came storming out of the gates to win 15 of the first 19 points.
  • Saint Leo could only get back to within seven at 18-11 before the Blue and Gold wrapped up the match on a 7-1 spurt, taking the set, 25-12, to complete the 3-0 sweep.
 
UP NEXT:
The Tars will return to the court on Friday, October 18, when they travel to West Palm Beach to face Palm Beach Atlantic in a 7 p.m. contest.
