TAMPA, Fla. (Oct. 4, 2024) – The Rollins volleyball team fell to top-ranked Tampa on the road Friday night in three sets, 25-22, 25-18, 25-14. The Tars are now 9-6 on the year, 0-4 in conference play, while the Spartans improve to 9-0, 1-0 in SSC action.
Lana Gerard had a match-high 10 kills while
Jadyn Troutman tallied seven kills and
Marta Tsaneva added six kills.
Adriana Lopez led all players with 10 digs and
Molly Morris (15 assists) and
Jenna Garza (10 assists) split the setting duties for the Blue and Gold.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Set One
- Rollins took an early 3-1 lead and stayed either tied or in front until Tampa took its first lead of the match at 13-12.
- The Tars came back to regain the lead at 17-16, but the Spartans clung to their slim lead and eventually took the opening frame, 25-22.
Set Two
- Set two saw the Blue and Gold again jump out to a quick lead, this time going up by a score of 4-1, but Tampa won the next four points to nose in front, 5-4.
- The two sides remained close until a 4-0 run gave the home team a 17-12 edge, and the Spartans closed the set on a 5-1 burst to win it, 25-18.
Set Three
- In the third frame, UT scored five of the first six points and never looked back, winning the set by a 25-14 score to complete the 3-0 sweep.
UP NEXT:
The Tars will return to the court tomorrow as they visit Florida Southern in another SSC contest. The match is set to begin at 4 p.m. in Lakeland.
