Tars Draw With Mocs

Rollins and Florida Southern tied 1-1 on Wednesday evening

WINTER PARK, Fla. (October 23, 2024) - A wild five minute stretch provided all the scoring in Wednesday's Sunshine State Conference match between Rollins and Florida Southern, resulting in a 1-1 draw. The Tars now stand at 4-5-1 (2-3-1 SSC), while the Mocs move to 3-4-3 (1-4-1 SSC).

The first 75 minutes of play were a real slobberknocker, featuring physical play, tremendous defense, and very few chances at putting the ball in the net. Only one save was recorded in that amount of time as neither team could break through.

Rollins finally took advantage of an illegal tackle inside the box in the 76th minute. Rory Doyle was selected to take the penalty kick, and it was seemingly saved by Lasse Dettmer. However, the referee whistled for a do-over, claiming that Dettmer left this mark early. The kicker was then switched to Jorge Lameiras, who promptly landed the PK to put Rollins up 1-0.

With a little over ten minutes to go, the Mocs finally broke through the Tar defense with a prime opportunity. Felix Tonne worked past a couple of Rollins defenders, and as keeper Jabari Gray crashed on him, was able to deliver a perfect pass to Sonny Albert, who easily scored to knot the game up at one in the 80th minute.

Rollins was extremely aggressive in the final ten minutes, playing a man up thanks to a red card on the Mocs earlier in the game. They were able to take five shots in that time, but none of which were on goal, leading to a draw.

The Tars outshot the Mocs 17-9, but only three shots were on goal for each team. A total of 31 fouls were called in the game, and eight cards were delivered, four to each team.

Next up for the Tars is a trip to Daytona to play the Embry-Riddle Eagles on Saturday, March 26. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
